Heatstroke

HEATSTROKE

With Stephen Dorff, Svetlana Metkina, Maisie Williams, Peter Stormare, Andrew Roux

Written by Anne Brooksbank & Evelyn Maude Purcell (based on the book by Hannah Nyala)
Directed by Evelyn Maude Purcell

Made here in South Africa, an American hyena expert heads into the wild for research with his rebellious daughter and his Russian girlfriend and.
When their paths fatally cross with gun smugglers / poachers, personality clashes and differences have to be put aside as they run for survival in an inhospitable land.  But the stakes are amped when the gang of bushveld criminals nab the young girl.

Viewers will recognize Maisie Williams from Game Of Thrones, with Stormare again in villain mode (as been established from the Coen brothers’ Fargo, to Schwarzenegger’s nemesis in Last Stand), here he is the slimy leader of the gun smugglers. The local supporting cast do a pretty good job of portraying the scumbags.

A little plodding at times, but watchable if there's nothing else available and you're in the mood for some African scenery and TV-movie styled drama-thriller (with some action thrown in).
